The Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center Stroke Program will undergo The Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Stroke certification survey on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 14-15.

The center will host two surveyors with extensive backgrounds in stroke care during this survey. The Stroke Team has been working, along with many others, for the past six months to prepare for this advanced certification.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center designation was introduced in June 2012 and the first facilities were surveyed against the new standards in September 2012. To date, 35-40 facilities have undergone this intense evaluation of the care provided to Stroke patients and only three have received the certification.

During the two-day survey, they may visit the Emergency Department, the Angiography Suite, and any Nursing Unit where a Neurology/Neurosurgery patient is bedded as they “trace” the care provided.

“We look forward to the survey and know that Joint Commission will see the dedication our staff has to our entire patient population,”Director of Quality Management Linda Henderson said.
